A
Canticle for Our Times was written in December, 1990, in response to the Persian Gulf War. The text is compiled from
Biblical sources, and the music portrays the violence and questioning of the conflict, and the call that all might dwell together
in peace. A poiniant and timely statement, more relavant than ever.
"I had not experienced wartime before,
and it was a big deal for Americans. Little did we know how gentle and painless this war was compared to what would come years
later. But back there in 1990, I was feeling a need to make my statement, and the 'Canticle' was a passion that I attacked
and completed in days...."
