Melpomene Composer Malcolm Caluori
Although composer and music dramatist Malcolm
Caluori has won vigorous public approval for the freshness and ingenuity of his works, he considers himself a "traditional"
composer, repleat with hand-written manuscripts, conventional orchestrations, and a decisive intent to communicate with audiences,
not at them. Still, one can readily observe in his music an eclectic palette open to a wide variety of expressive modes, styles,
techniques and effects, "traditional" or otherwise, judiciously selected for each given moment. This moment-by-moment
selection is telling of Caluori's entire aesthetic approach, which bears a natural inclination toward the dramatic. It
should then be no surprise that, with the development of this aesthetic, the theatrical has become Caluori's calling.
